Located between Maryland and Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley,
In Berkeley County there are 11 Fire and Rescue departments.
Six of the departments are run by dedicated volunteer EMT's, Paramedics, Firefighters, and Administrative personnel, With Five of the eleven departments having paid staffing.
The oldest department in Berkeley County is the Martinsburg Fire Department formed in 1905. Several major factories and industries are located in its boundaries including a regional airport that houses a National Guard Unit which now flies the C5 Galaxy. Interstate 81, and soon to be 4 lanes Route 9 runs through Berkeley County providing for many different types of materials to pass both in and out of Berkeley County.
