Located in the Potomac Highlands Region of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia,
Mineral County includes Keyser, Fort Ashby, Piedmont, Ridgeley, Elk Garden, Burlington,
New Creek, Antioch, Headsville, Wiley Ford, Carpendale and Patterson's Creek.
Mineral County is predominantly rural, with some mountainous terrain
While there are some small farms, commercial and light industry.
Bordered on the North by the Potomac River and Allegany County Maryland,
Keyser, the county seat of local government, is 150 miles from Baltimore, 120 miles from Pittsburgh,
140 miles from Washington, but 254 miles from Charleston, the West Virginia state capital.
Highways serving the Mineral County area are Interstate 68, US 40, US 220. and US 50.
Motor freight carriers with terminals serving the Mineral County area include Best Way,
J.R. Spencer Trucking, Quality Supplier, Tomar, Inc. and General Delivery.
Railways within Mineral County are owned and operated by CSX.
Air transportation is provided through the Cumberland Regional Airport in Wiley Ford, WV.

BURLINGTON APPLE HARVEST PARADE
Dear Friends,
The Burlington Volunteer Fire Department will be participating in and hosting, along with several other area organizations, the 39th Annual Old Fashioned Apple Harvest Festival. The festival will be held at the Burlington Children’s Home grounds on the weekend of October 2nd and 3rd 2010.
On Saturday and Sunday the grounds will be open to all and there will be plenty of games, food, arts, crafts, and a lot more for your entertainment. If you have not attended this big event, you won’t want to miss this weekend.
One of the highlights each year is the parade, which will be held Saturday, October 2nd 2010 at 4 p.m. We cordially invite you to participate in the Annual Apple Harvest Parade. Line-up will be held at the Burlington Fire Department at 3 p.m. This parade gives you the opportunity to display your organization’s talent and equipment to the citizens of Burlington, Mineral County, West Virginia and the Tri-state area. We request that you do not use your sirens during the parade, as we want everyone to enjoy it. Candy may be thrown.
The prizes are as follows:
Bands: 1st place - $200 and trophy
2nd place - $150 and trophy
All marching groups in line of March with musical instruments $100.00
Floats: 1st place – trophy & $50.00
2nd place – trophy & $25.00
3rd place – trophy & $25.00
Twirling Groups:
1st place – trophy & $25.00
2nd place – trophy & $25.00
3rd place – trophy & $25.00
Best Appearing Pumper (1000 gpm and over) – trophy
Best Appearing Tanker (vehicle to be marker as tanker) – trophy
